APHRDS started its journey and development in a humble way. It’s course from a ‘Community Interest Group’ to that of a peoples organization involved a lot of struggle and decision of a committed team.
It was initiated in the year 1987 in a remote rural village named Korrai, being inspired by Gandhian ideal of ‘Gram Swaraj’, village autonomy. A group of young people in and around Korrai village started this process of “Brotherly sharing” to cherish the humanistic values of ‘love your neighbor & love your village’. As an entry point of development intervention APHRDS started its operation with education and awareness building, in night schools. More emphasis was given to education as APHRDS believes that ‘education is the only single major panacea for sustainable development intervention. Sanghams were taken as a micro level unit to promote solidarity and organization, with the slogan that ‘United we stand’, as solidarity building being an imperative for the poor to withstand the pressure of oppression and exploitation.
